He was still not over the murder of his mate. He was a backcountry ranger in the mountains which helped keep him calm and retain his sanity. Each day, though, his bear was getting more uncontrollable and he wasn’t sure what he would do if he suddenly snapped!
  
  When Riley meets the damaged Marisa, there may be hope. Both of them are in pain, trying to deal with the cruelty in their lives, painful loss and grieving heartache. Riley’s family gives Marisa a reason to live. Together they can find healing and love and acceptance out of their painful pasts. Can they give the healing a chance? Or is the damage too deep to let them find love?
  
  This is a good story that touches the reader’s emotions right from the start. Seeing someone as broken as the two main characters are just seems to make the reader open up and care for them. Grab your copy and join them in what lies ahead. I think the reader will be pleased at how the author handles this story.
• Holy Shifter Hotness!!!! As with any J. K. Harper books you run the whole spectrum of emotions from fear, anger and anguish to acceptance, family to mated love. Riley and Marissa have a connection they can't understand through the despair of their pasts, but it's their none the less. Marissa has secrets that shame her and with the madness within she is desperate to be put down, no only to protect herself but others as well. Riley just can't understand why she is giving up without a fight, like his late mate did. When their inner animals come to the forefront some of Marissa's haunted past comes out in a flurry of words and with that truth Riley begins to understand the pain and inner fight of this beautiful mountain lion. The realization of feelings between them Riley and Marissa finally give in and find peace and happiness so long forgotten. Danger is around the corner from the outcasts that made Marissa and her brother what they've become. What happens when Riley and Marissa 's past collide. Who will walk away in victory?? Can Riley and Marissa claim the life of mated love and family??? A very emotional story where a strong woman has been left emotionally fragile from the lack of kindness and love except from her brother and a beat of a man living in his own kind off hell from losing his mate and mother to his children. Together they heal and tame their inner beasts and find a different reason to go on living. Loved it and highly recommend this MUST read shifter HEA!!! I received an ARC of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Purchased a copy for my favorite collection and can't wait for Slade's hotshot story.
• I had left a 1 star review as the version I rec'd had 2 books spliced together, with a previous book (Cortez) starting about 30% thru. I contacted the author via email and FB and she contacted as apparently they uploaded the wrong files to anyone who had a pre-order. So I didn't have to wait, she emailed me the full book. LOVE how she took care of the issue herself instead of waiting on to fix it. Anyway, the book was fantastic as always! Loved how damaged both Riley and Marissa were and came together. Great action, storyline. One of my very favorite authors before and still is!
• Riley had experienced a great loss in his life, his mate was murdered, however, he tried to survive without her because of his two children who meant the world to him. Then outcasts showed up near their home and his clan was forced to fight the horrible maniac shifters who threatened their lives. However, a woman from the outcasts came to live with his clan, she was so broken and Marisa didn't know if she would ever be okay again, what was she going to do and would someone actually be able to save her that was right under her nose????
• Always glad to see justice served on scumbags. Riley and Marisa are both interesting, relatable characters. The plot itself was interesting as well. That said, there was more vulgarity than was needed, and the sexual content detracted some from the story, being overly graphic and using unnecessarily crude terms, issues that weren't quite so bad in previous books in the series. Also, needs a good proofread to fix missing and extra words in a variety of sentences.
• I'm sorry - I thought this was Riley's story.....from chapter 8 onward, it's a totally different book.....what happened?
• I was enjoying the book until I got to chapter 8 and realized I was reading a different book! So once I realize there was an updated version and got that downloaded I was able to continue with Riley and Marissa‘s story!. Great storyline and you can’t help but love the characters. I’m looking forward to the next adventure with this bear clan and this will probably be a series I will enjoy reading in the future
• I love J. K. Harper and all her books but I can't seen to get the second half of Riley bear book. I know it's a fun at from but can't seem to figure out what to do to fix this issue. Poop!💩💩
  Any suggestions? I've tried deleting it but since I bought it and didn't use kindle unlimited i don't seem to be able to do so. Help!
