"I really like Mike Piper’s “… in a 100 pages or less” series. The books all provide a slick, fast, convenient way for people to learn important stuff.

Piper’s “Cost Accounting Made Simple: Cost Accounting Explained in a 100 Pages or Less” continues the series, providing managers and business owners with a great resource about a powerful tool: cost accounting.

Seriously? If your firm or organization isn’t using good cost accounting to gain practical insights into the economics of your operation? Well, you’re going to get game-changing insights if you learn cost accounting and then apply it.

Can I throw out a suggestion about how to use this book? Read through it first. (This won’t take you long at all. Chapters break down the subject of cost accounting into easy to digest chunks.)

Then, apply the concepts Piper describes to your specific business or organization. (Contextualizing the material this way will cement your new knowledge—and let you immediately gain insights.)

Finally, after your initial read of “Cost Accounting Made Simple,” go back and re-read the book some Saturday. You’ll probably find a second wave of new, actionable insights you can use to improve your business or organization.

Cost Accounting Made Simple Cost Accounting Explained in 100 Pages or Less Mike Piper 9780997946529 Books Reviews

  • I am an accountant with a MS in Accounting and MBA with a finance concentration. My passion is accounting mixed with budgeting and forecasting. Since I want to transition my career from financial accounting to working as a cost accountant, I was looking for a short summary as a refresher. The formatting and outline style of this little book is what I was looking for. However, I was taken aback by the negative dedication. I have been working a few years in the industry and love the work. If I could make a recommendation to the author, I would suggest revising the dedication and forward to reflect a positive and uplifting aspect of the accounting field not a negative one.
"For you, the reader, in the hope that accounting will be a useful tool throughout your career rather than a stumbling block or source of confusion." Reading this made me feel sick inside. I would change the "rather than..." section to "your career (and that you find much satisfaction and reward in your work).

  • It is clearly explained and nicely resumed. Not in too much depth or detail.
